A CME on ‘Cochlear Implantation: An Overview’ was organized by the department of ENT on 27.01.2017, at Surgery Conference Hall. Dr K Nagasubramanian, MS DLO,Professor and HOD, Department of ENT and Dr V Selvaraj, MS, Professor and HOD, Department of General Surgery were the Chair Persons. Dr J Balasubramani, MS DLO, Assistant Professor, Department of ENT was the Speaker. He gave an excellent presentation on ‘ Cochlear Implantation: An Overview’.   COLOSSUS II - EMPOWERING KNOWLEDGE- 2017
The grand CME ‘ COLOSSUS II ’ was conducted by the Department of General Medicine, Govt. Sivagangai Medical College, Sivagangai on 15.12.2016 at the Conference Hall, Department of General Surgery and on 16.12.2016 at The Auditorium, Govt. Sivagangai Medical College, Sivagangai. The following scientific sessions were conducted on 15.12.2016 at the Conference Hall, Department of General Surgery. Dr P Arun Prasath MD DM(Nephrology), Assistant Professor, Department of General Medicine, Govt. Sivagangai Medical College, delivered an excellent presentation on ‘ Nephrotic /Nephritic Syndrome’. Dr David Pradeep Kumar, MD, DGM, MRCP, Professor and HOD, Department of General Medicine, Govt. Sivagangai Medical College and Dr Somasundaram , Professor, Department of General Medicine, Govt. Sivagangai Medical College were the Chair persons. The above session was followed by an exquisitive speech on ‘ Approach to Congenital Heart Diseases’ by Dr Nagasundar, MD DM(Cardiology), Assistant Professor, Department of General Medicine, Govt. Sivagangai Medical College. Dr L Jerald Majellah, MD DLO, Professor, Department of General Medicine, Govt. Sivagangai Medical College and Dr P R Sheela, MD DGO,Professor, Department of General Medicine, Govt. Sivagangai Medical College were the chair persons. This was followed by ‘Clinical demonstration – Neurology’, where Dr S Kani, MD DM(Neurology), Professor and HOD, Department of General Medicine, Thoothukudi Medical College, Thoothukudi presented a detailed demonstration of clinical examination of a case of acute Cerebrovascular Vascular Accident. Dr David Pradeep Kumar, MD, DGM, MRCP, Professor and HOD, Department of General Medicine, Govt. Sivagangai Medical College was the Chair person. The following scientific sessions were conducted on 16.12.2016 at the Conference Hall, Department of General Surgery. Dr V T Premkumar, MD, Professor and HOD, Department of General Medicine, Madurai Medical College presented an interesting topic on ‘ Rheumatic Heart Diseases- A Clinical Approach’. Dr Jeeva MD, Professor and HOD, Department of Anatomy, Govt. Sivagangai Medical College and Dr Amuthan, MS, Associate Professor, Department of General Surgery, Govt. Sivagangai Medical College were the chair persons. The above session was followed by the Grand Inauguration by Dr P Soundararajan, Dean, Govt. Sivagangai Medical College. Dr R Balajinathan, MD, Professor, Department of General Medicine, Madurai Medical College delivered an excellent presentation on ‘Chronic Liver Disease and its Complications’. . Dr Meena MD, Professor and HOD, Department of Physiology, Govt. Sivagangai Medical College and Dr V Selvaraj, Professor, Department of General Surgery, Govt. Sivagangai Medical College were the chair persons. This was followed by ‘ Discussion on Pleural Diseases’ by Dr K Namasivayam, MD, Professor, Department of General Medicine, Thanjavur Medical College, Thanjavur. Dr K Nagasubramanian, MS DLO,Professor and HOD, Department of ENT, Govt. Sivagangai Medical College and Dr Malliga MD, Associate Professor, Department of Pathology, Govt. Sivagangai Medical College were the chair persons. Dr J Sangumani, MD D. Diab, Professor, Department of General Medicine, Madurai Medical College, delivered an excellent presentation on ‘ Thyroid dysfunctions’ in detail. Dr K M S Susila, Professor and HOD, Department of Pharmacology, Govt. Sivagangai Medical College and Dr Vijayalakshmi, Professor, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Govt. Sivagangai Medical College were the Chair persons. The final session was an interesting Quiz competition for final year MBBS students. 5 teams with 3 members in each team participated in the competition. Dr L Jerald Majellah, MD DLO, Professor, Department of General Medicine, Govt. Sivagangai Medical College was the co ordinator. Dr Preethi, Dr Subathra devi, Dr Deepapriya won the 1st prize, Dr S V Vignesh , Dr Afees ahmed, Dr Vignesh kumar backed the 2nd prize and 3rd price was won by Dr Anees Fathima, Dr Umayal, Dr Athira. The CME had an accredition of 20 points. Faculties and post graduate students from various medical colleges of Tamilnadu attended the CME and made it a grand success.

A CME on ‘ Chronic Kidney Disease: Early Recognition and role of Primary care Physician’ was conducted by the Department of General Medicine on 18.04.2016 at 12.00 pm in the Conference Hall of the Department of General Surgery. Dr David Pradeep Kumar, Professor of General Medicine and Dr Selvakumar, Professor of Paediatrics were the Chair persons. Dr Arun Prasath, Nephrologist, delivered a detailed speech on the early recognition of Chronic Kidney Disease which tends to be one of the common diseases which most often is detected only at later stages. He also highlighted the role of primary care physicians in the early detection of the disease. His lecture was an eye opener to all the teaching faculty and students who attended the programme.

Dr Lakshmana Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Microbiology, gave a detailed enumeration of the guidelines and principles to be followed in the usage of antimicrobial drugs in Infectious diseases. His lecture was very helpful to all the doctors of various departments who attended the programme , in refining their treatment principles with regard to infectious diseases.

He gave a detailed information on the time of implementation of weaning, the foods to be given and those to avoided,etc. All the teaching faculties, Nursing superintendents and Staff Nurses atteneded the programme. Queries put forth by the audience were clarified by the Speaker in detail.

  Inauguration of ‘Cochlear Implant Program’
Govt. Sivagangai Medical College, Sivagangai, shares its pride in the inauguration of the ‘Cochlear Implant Program’ in the Department of ENT on 30.11.2016 at 09.00 am in the Conference Hall of the Department of General Surgery. The inaugural function was presided over by the Dean, Dr P Soundara rajan. Dr P Mageswari, Professor of Anaesthesiology and Dr Nagasubramanian, Professor of ENT gave the special address and honoured the Chief Guest. Dr Mohan Kameswaran, MS FRCS FICS FAMS DLO, Senior Consultant and Managing Director, Madras ENT Research Foundation (P) Ltd., Chennai was the Chief Guest. He presented a live demonstration of Cochlear Implant Surgery and highlighted the steps involved, complications anticipated , etc in the procedure in detail. Dr Selvaraj, Professor of General Surgery, Govt.Sivagangai Medical College was the chairperson. Dr J Amuthan, Professor of General Surgery, Govt.Sivagangai Medical College,delivered the Welcome address. This was followed by the Felicitation of the Chief Guests. Dr Nirmala Devi, Assistant Professor, Department of General surgery, Govt.Sivagangai Medical College,gave a detailed presentation on Parotid Tumour. Dr S R Dhamodharan, Professor, Department of General Surgery, Madurai Medical College, gave an excellent lecture on Right Iliac Fossa Mass, the differential diagnoses, investigations and management. This was followed by case presentation by the final year MBBS Students. The case presentation was in the form of an audio – visual, captured during the clinical examination of the patient by the presenters. Dr Viveka, Final Year MBBS Student, presented a case of ‘ Squamous Cell Carcinoma’. Dr Anees Fathima and Dr Jayshree, Final Year MBBS Students, presented a case of ‘ Obstructive Jaundice’. Dr Vigneshkumar and Dr Parthiban, Final Year MBBS Students, presented a case of ‘ Inguinal Hernia’. The case presentation was followed by floor discussion by the Chief guests, the Chair person and the presenters. The Chief guests and the Chair person offered suggestions to the students to refine their presentation. This was highly beneficial not only to the presenters but also to all other students who attended the programme. Dr Menaka, Ante Natal Medical Officer, Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, dealt with the complications of Hypertensive disorders in Pregnancy and discussed the features of HELLP Syndrome too. Dr Valarmathi, Assistant Professor, Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, gave an elaborate presentation on the management of in Hypertensive disorders in Pregnancy.   Antiragging Committee Meeting December 2016
The antiragging committee meeting for the month of November was held in 12.12.2016. It was reported that all the medical officers posted for antiragging duty were present on the scheduled date and stayed in the hostel and underwent periodic rounds. There were no ragging activities within the hostel, college and hospital. No ragging cases were reported.

  Gender Harassment Committee Meeting- December 2016
Gender Harassment Committee meeting for the month of December was held on 31.12.2016. The meeting was presided over by the Chairman of the Committee Dr P Mageswari. All the members attended the meeting. It was reported that there was no gender harassment inside the hospital and college premises.
